Yellow Speckle Orange Rice with Oats

The Yellow Speckle Orange Rice with Oats pack bait recipe 3 is great for catching carp on those very hot and sunny, summer days. The flakes of old-fashioned oats mixed in, really help set it apart from similar baits. The bright color is also a nice touch.

This is a photo of Yellow Speckle Orange Rice with Oats pack bait number 3.

The Yellow Speckle Orange Rice with Oats pack bait number 3 is great when the sun is in the upper 80’s and even into the 90’s. The rice really does well for catching carp when things are steamy hot. I have use rice-based baits many times over the years when the cooler weather has passed. Now, this bait won’t help you stay cool but a nice run or two from a hog, just might make it more tolerable. You can also easily substitute the oats portion of the recipe with any other dry particle ingredient to give the bait a slightly different feel. Sometimes, I’ll use some grits or a little fish meal instead. Give it a shot and let us know how it did for you by rating it or discussing it in the forum for others to see. Thank you.

Additional Information:

Bait Base: Rice
Bait Type: Packbait
Fish Type: Carp
Best Used: Summer
Water Type: Lake or Pond
Servings 2.2 Gallons

Equipment

  • 1 Bucket with lid (Preferably a 5-gallon bucket.)
  • 1 Towel (To dry your hands.)

Ingredients

  • 28 oz. 1 box of Instant Rice, 28. oz. (Must be instant rice for this.)
  • 1 Cup Kosher Salt (Non-iodized.)
  • 1 Cup Sugar (Regular or powdered is fine.)
  • 20 oz. Soda, of your choice (Orange Crush is used here.)
  • 2 oz. Liquid Butter and Nut Flavoring (Butter and Nut by R and W was used here.)
  • 1 oz. Real Orange juice from 1 squeezed orange fruit. (Real orange from any grocery store.)
  • 1/2 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats (Use old-fashioned oats right from tube.)

Instructions

  • Pour the 28 oz. of rice in the bucket.
  • Pour in the cups of salt and sugar and mix the dry parts together.
  • Add the 20-ounce soda of choice to the dry stuff in the bucket and mix very well.
  • Add the 2 or 3 ounces of flavor and mix that in as well. It will appear very wet, but that's ok.
  • Pierce and squeeze 1 ounce of juice from a real orange and mix into the bucket.
  • Place the lid on the bucket and let it sit for about 1 day but come in and fluff the bait every couple of hours or so.
  • After a day has passed, the bait should feel really nice and appear ready to use.
But before you are done, take 1/2 cup of old-fashioned oats right out of the tube as is and sprinkle it into the bucket and fluff once more.
  • It should look similar to the picture above. Yours might have a slightly more orange color but yellow is fine too. Enjoy!

Notes

This is a very nice rice-based pack bait recipe with a very yellow or orange color.  It will last about a week or so before you have to toss it, maybe a little longer if you are lucky.
I used this bait at the Tygerberry landing in Duncan SC on July 15th, 2023.  I got a couple pulls but then I got rained out.  The bait smells nice and seems to have a lot of potential.  You might want to play around with adding more oats but not too much that it wont pack.
